About the Great Egret

The Great Egret is one of North America's largest wading birds and can be found throughout Florida in marshes, wetlands, lakes, rivers, and coastal estuaries. During the breeding season, adults develop beautiful wispy plumes and vivid green facial skin, making them one of the most spectacular birds to encounter.

Although once hunted nearly to extinction for their feathers, conservation efforts helped the species recover, making the Great Egret one of America's greatest wildlife success stories.
